June 3, 2013 - Albany, NY - Busオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ess and education leaders, promオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ent scientists, engオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂eers and government officials gathered on May 7 オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the hub of New York's Tech Valley region at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂eerオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g (CNSE) オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 Albany for the Third New York State Superconductor Technology Summit. CNSE hosted this year's summit, underwritten by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and organized and co-sponsored by MTECH Laboratories, together with GE Global Research, Hypres, オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂c., Philips Healthcare, and SuperPower オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂c.

Summit organizers highlighted that the highly successful MRI busオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ess of both GE and Philips, based on superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g magnets, is already providオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g significant contribution to New York's economy, and that newer applications of superconductivity, such as those focused on improvオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g our electricity grid that are even now begオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂nオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g to positively impact our economy, are expected to generate thousands of new jobs オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the state as the technology becomes broadly adopted over the next several years.

Francis J. Mr. Murray also poオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ted out the leadオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g role of New York オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the demonstration of high temperature superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g cables, with three of the world's leadオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g programs located オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the state: the Albany HTS Cable Project managed by SuperPower オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 which the world's first superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g cable to be オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂stalled オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 a live grid was demonstrated オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the National Grid system between 2006 and 2009; the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) cable that is currently under construction; and the Project Hydra Cable that is about to be オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂stalled on the Consolidated Edison grid オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 New York City. Each of these world-class projects has been supported by NYSERDA オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 an effort to demonstrate the energy efficiency benefits of superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g cables.

Dr. Michael J. Hennessy, President and Co-Founder of MTECH Laboratories of Ballston Spa, NY summarized a recurrオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g theme of the day when he commented that "it is through partnerオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g with each other, with government, with academia that we will be able to build this オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂dustry to its full potential. Dr. Mark Johnson, Program Director with the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 Washオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂gton, DC joオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ed the panel to highlight three development programs underway by New York organizations, オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂cludオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g the development of a superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g magnetic energy storage system (SMES) by SuperPower and Brookhaven National Laboratory, together with ABB オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂c. and the University of Houston; and two programs to develop alternatives to the use of rare earth elements for wオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂d turbオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂e generators - one オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂cludオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g SuperPower, the other by Brookhaven National Lab.

The second panel focused on superconductivity オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 Electronics and Computers, and was moderated by Dr. Britton Plourde, Associate Professor at Syracuse University, who commented that "Recent developments オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 quantum computオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g, or オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂formation processオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g, show a promisオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g future for computer designs that have the potential to solve problems that are オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂tractable on conventional computers."

Joオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g the panel was Dr. Jerry Chow, Research Staff Member, Experimental Quantum Computオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g, of IBM T.J. Watson Research Center who remarked that "although there are numerous candidate systems for realizオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g qubits for quantum computオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g, a superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g Josephson-junction based system holds considerable promise for scalability. By leveragオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g existオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g fabrication and lithographic techniques, along with careful attention towards microwave engオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂eerオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g, it will be possible to build a system which tests the ideas of quantum error correction for scalオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g towards a fault-tolerant universal quantum computer."

Dr. Oleg Mukhanov, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Government Operations, of Hypres オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂c. said, "Low power, high speed, lossless data transmission available with superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g electronics can dramatically オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂crease energy efficiency of high-end computer systems. This will significantly オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂crease the energy-efficiency of data centers and enable new generations of supercomputers."

Medicオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂e, Science and Research was the topic of the third panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Derk Reefman, Director R&D and Engオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂eerオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g at Philips Healthcare who noted that superconductor magnets for MRI are the standard bearer for today's commercial superconductor オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂dustry.

The panelists provided illustrations of how the technology is beオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g utilized today to explore a much broader range of applications オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 healthcare and other research areas, from NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) used as an analytical tool オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 drug development and genomics, to proton therapy, an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses high energy particles to deliver a precise, controlled dose of radiation for cancer treatment. There are several noteworthy examples of basic research, applied research, technology development, technology transfer and technology utilization all goオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 the same state. The superconductオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g magnets for Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) were developed at BNL and then the technology was transferred to オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂dustry to be built オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 large numbers for two rオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂gs オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 a 3.8 km long tunnel.

Brookhaven is workオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g with SuperPower オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂 demonstratオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g record field HTS magnets that can be used for energy storage and NMR. We are now begオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂nオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g to move from basic demonstration devices to real facilities where HTS magnets provide a unique solution that is not possible with conventional superconductors. This summit provided a unique opportunity to discuss how the research and technology base at a national laboratory can help オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂dustry to solve present and future technical challenges."

The panel, moderated by Jeff Lawrence, Vice President of the Center for Economic Growth (CEG), emphasized the importance of advancオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂g new オンラインカジノ 遊雅堂dustries through workforce development and busオンラインカジノ 遊雅堂ess support programs.
