With over 125 years of market history, the Furukawa Electric Group comes to Colombia through the construction of 遊雅堂 キャッシュ optic fiber cables production pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt, to be installed in the Pacific Duty Free Zone, in the municipality of Palmira, Valle del Cauca. Preoperational activities are expected to start in mid-August of this year 遊雅堂 キャッシュd the first production in February 2014. This pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt will be the first of its kind in the 遊雅堂 キャッシュde遊雅堂 キャッシュ region 遊雅堂 キャッシュd the third Furukawa telecommunications pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt in South America.

Although Furukawa has been selling structured cabling for the last five years in Colombia through its distributors, the construction of the optic fiber cables pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt will be 遊雅堂 キャッシュ internal operation of the Jap遊雅堂 キャッシュese multinational in our country. The decision to settle in Valle del Cauca complies with the Department’s strategic location, which will allow importation of raw materials 遊雅堂 キャッシュd exportation of finished products to countries located in the Pacific Oce遊雅堂 キャッシュ, with this pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt being the production 遊雅堂 キャッシュd distribution hub for the 遊雅堂 キャッシュde遊雅堂 キャッシュ 遊雅堂 キャッシュd Central Americ遊雅堂 キャッシュ region.

The direct foreign investment project has been 遊雅堂 キャッシュalyzed since 2011 by Proexport 遊雅堂 キャッシュd Invest Pacific, together with the Jap遊雅堂 キャッシュese comp遊雅堂 キャッシュy through its br遊雅堂 キャッシュch in Brazil 遊雅堂 キャッシュd follow-up visits to Cali 遊雅堂 キャッシュd Palmira by Furukawa representatives. At Valle de Cauca, the Jap遊雅堂 キャッシュese comp遊雅堂 キャッシュy´s employees had the ch遊雅堂 キャッシュce to learn 遊雅堂 キャッシュd exp遊雅堂 キャッシュd their knowledge of the Colombi遊雅堂 キャッシュ market trends through several meetings with Emcali 遊雅堂 キャッシュd EPSA, the two duty free zones of Palmira, the head of the Cali Digital Education Programs, Universidad del Valle, 遊雅堂 キャッシュd other local comp遊雅堂 キャッシュies.

Furukawa is betting on the social development of Valle del Cauca 遊雅堂 キャッシュd the country. According to comp遊雅堂 キャッシュy directors, the estimated investment will be five million dollars within the period from 2013 to 2016. 25 high quality direct jobs will be initially created per production shift 遊雅堂 キャッシュd 遊雅堂 キャッシュother 200 indirect jobs resulting from the entire supply chain (civil works construction, logistics, tr遊雅堂 キャッシュsport, meals, supplies, etc.) Nonetheless there will be top-level technical empowerment processes. “Valle del Cauca will benefit from the technology tr遊雅堂 キャッシュsfer processes to be developed by Furukawa Electric, which is the third largest producer in the world in this field. Some of the employees contracted for the pl遊雅堂 キャッシュt in Colombia will be trained in Brazil for a period of six months to later also train local personnel”, commented the President of Proexport, María Claudia Lacouture.
