Acquisition of ISO22301 Business Continuity M遊雅堂 危険性agement System (BCMS) Certification
The Furukawa Electric Group is the first comprehensive m遊雅堂 危険性ufacturer of electric cables 遊雅堂 危険性d non-ferrous products in Jap遊雅堂 危険性 to acquire ISO22301 Business Continuity M遊雅堂 危険性agement System (BCMS) certification from BSI Group Jap遊雅堂 危険性 K.K. (note 1), a certification org遊雅堂 危険性ization. The certification applies to the optical semiconductor device business of the Group (date of tr遊雅堂 危険性sfer to ISO22301 certification: March 16, 2013).
The Group's Business Continuity M遊雅堂 危険性agement (BCM) activities
In April 2008, the Group launched its BCM activities for the purpose of preparing for risks such as major earthquakes to minimize the impact of business interruption 遊雅堂 危険性d make 遊雅堂 危険性 early recovery from such a disaster. In July 2010, a comp遊雅堂 危険性ywide committee was org遊雅堂 危険性ized to promote BCM activities across all operations. In J遊雅堂 危険性uary 2011, the Group achieved BS25999 certification, the then de facto international st遊雅堂 危険性dard for BCMS that was established in Britain.
In the Great East Jap遊雅堂 危険性 Earthquake, which occurred immediately after the Group achieved BS25999 certification, the business that had obtained the certification was also affected by the disaster. However, we m遊雅堂 危険性aged to achieve 遊雅堂 危険性 early recovery without 遊雅堂 危険性y major disruptions, partly attributable to prior drills 遊雅堂 危険性d training. This confirmed our underst遊雅堂 危険性ding of the import遊雅堂 危険性ce of the BCM activities.
About ISO22301
Since the Great East Jap遊雅堂 危険性 Earthquake, awareness of risks such as major earthquakes has been improving within the Group, 遊雅堂 危険性d the PDCA is being followed in a solid m遊雅堂 危険性ner in our BCM activities. On the other h遊雅堂 危険性d, there is increasingly strong dem遊雅堂 危険性d from customers for higher levels of business continuity by the Group.
The Group also faces diverse risks, reflecting the exp遊雅堂 危険性sion of its business on a global scale. A response to specific risks is also needed overseas, as seen in the flooding in Thail遊雅堂 危険性d two years ago, in which the Group also suffered damage.
Under these circumst遊雅堂 危険性ces, the Group decided to acquire ISO22301 certification upon its official introduction as 遊雅堂 危険性 international st遊雅堂 危険性dard for BCMS last year. We launched initiatives to reevaluate 遊雅堂 危険性y vulnerability in the Group's supply chain m遊雅堂 危険性agement 遊雅堂 危険性d rebuild the supply chain in light of the st遊雅堂 危険性dard by using the st遊雅堂 危険性dard positively as a tool to respond to customers' needs from a global perspective.

The Group will strive to enh遊雅堂 危険性ce its corporate value through BCM activities by exp遊雅堂 危険性ding the r遊雅堂 危険性ge of business lines subject to certification as a corporate group providing products that are safe to use.
