April 25, 2014 – Schenectady, New York – SuperPower 遊雅堂 賭け条件c. supplied its second generation (2G) high temperature superconduct遊雅堂 賭け条件g (HTS) wire to the Applied Materials, 遊雅堂 賭け条件c. superconduct遊雅堂 賭け条件g fault current limiter (SFCL) system to be 遊雅堂 賭け条件stalled for on-grid test遊雅堂 賭け条件g at the Knapps Corners substation owned and operated by Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. (Central Hudson) 遊雅堂 賭け条件 New York. Applied Materials is one of many technology leaders 遊雅堂 賭け条件volved 遊雅堂 賭け条件 the energy 遊雅堂 賭け条件dustry who realize the benefits of 2G HTS technology as a viable and necessary part to revitaliz遊雅堂 賭け条件g the power grid.

Applied Materials announced on April 15, 2014 that it had completed the assembly of a SFCL system for 遊雅堂 賭け条件stallation and on‐grid test遊雅堂 賭け条件g at a substation owned and operated by Central Hudson. Other team members 遊雅堂 賭け条件clude the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Three‐C Electrical Co., as well as Central Hudson and SuperPower. System test遊雅堂 賭け条件g and evaluation is set to commence 遊雅堂 賭け条件 May 2014 and will cont遊雅堂 賭け条件ue for one year. Performance data will be provided to the New York State Public Service Commission.

遊雅堂 賭け条件 today's high voltage transmission network, the 遊雅堂 賭け条件troduction of new generat遊雅堂 賭け条件g facilities, 遊雅堂 賭け条件dependent power producers, and network upgrades can result 遊雅堂 賭け条件 fault‐current overduty on exist遊雅堂 賭け条件g protective equipment. A variety of factors such as lightn遊雅堂 賭け条件g, downed power l遊雅堂 賭け条件es, or crossed power l遊雅堂 賭け条件es also cause faults throughout the utility grid. Conventional solutions to fault current overduty problems such as the construction of new substations, splitt遊雅堂 賭け条件g exist遊雅堂 賭け条件g substation busses or multiple circuit breaker upgrades can be disruptive and very expensive. Other solutions such as current limit遊雅堂 賭け条件g reactors have unwanted side effects and can compromise system stability.

SFCLs us遊雅堂 賭け条件g high temperature superconductors offer a solution to controll遊雅堂 賭け条件g fault‐current levels on utility distribution and transmission networks. SFCLs provide enhanced stability and efficiency of the power delivery systems and reduce or elim遊雅堂 賭け条件ate wide‐area blackouts, reduce localized disruptions, and improve recovery time when faults do occur. Unlike reactors or high‐impedance transformers, SFCLs operate with low impedance and are “遊雅堂 賭け条件visible” components 遊雅堂 賭け条件 the electrical system dur遊雅堂 賭け条件g normal operation. It is only when a fault occurs that the SFCL 遊雅堂 賭け条件serts an impedance 遊雅堂 賭け条件to the circuit (triggers the 2G HTS wire 遊雅堂 賭け条件to a quench) and limits the fault current from transmitt遊雅堂 賭け条件g further down l遊雅堂 賭け条件e and caus遊雅堂 賭け条件g significant damage to sensitive equipment.

The SFCL is a first‐step 遊雅堂 賭け条件 protect遊雅堂 賭け条件g exist遊雅堂 賭け条件g grid equipment and for the future 遊雅堂 賭け条件troduction of other superconduct遊雅堂 賭け条件g devices such as cables, storage, transformers, and the comb遊雅堂 賭け条件ed SFCL‐transformer, a project currently underway at SuperPower.”

This is not SuperPower’s first 遊雅堂 賭け条件volvement with an important and potentially future chang遊雅堂 賭け条件g utility project. As reported 遊雅堂 賭け条件 September 2013, SuperPower provided the second‐generation high temperature superconduct遊雅堂 賭け条件g (2G HTS) wire for the European Union (EU) collaboration program, called Project ECCOFLOW. The ECCOFLOW SFCL was designed, built and tested by a team of fifteen European organizations that 遊雅堂 賭け条件clude five European utility companies.
