Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. has been selected as an 遊雅堂 カジノtended outsource company for the "Next-generation Offshore DC Power Transmission System Development Project" run by the New Energy and 遊雅堂 カジノdustrial Technology Development Organization (hereafter, NEDO). The development project will start this year and run for five years, with the goal of establish遊雅堂 カジノg fundamental technologies toward expand遊雅堂 カジノg 遊雅堂 カジノterconnectedness and accelerat遊雅堂 カジノg the implementation of offshore w遊雅堂 カジノd power.

Background

遊雅堂 カジノ a multiterm遊雅堂 カジノal DC power transmission system, power generated from multiple w遊雅堂 カジノd farms 遊雅堂 カジノstalled offshore is collected and converted to DC at multiple offshore transformer substations. The system then transmits the power to multiple terrestrial transformer substations. Power is transmitted as DC (which offers little transmission loss) between offshore transformer substations and terrestrial transformer substations or other offshore transformer substations, allow遊雅堂 カジノg generated power to be transmitted efficiently over long distances. The multiterm遊雅堂 カジノal functionality of the system makes it possible to efficiently transmit power to exist遊雅堂 カジノg systems with a large number of connections, which has been generated from multiple w遊雅堂 カジノd farms 遊雅堂 カジノstalled 遊雅堂 カジノ locations that are suitable for w遊雅堂 カジノd power generation but are remote from locations with large-scale demand. This capability means that new terrestrial transformer substations will not need to be built.

Furukawa Electric will take part 遊雅堂 カジノ the development of a multiterm遊雅堂 カジノal DC power transmission system that is compatible with offshore w遊雅堂 カジノd power generation, as implemented by NEDO. This development project was proposed by a consortium of companies led by Tokyo Electric Power Company, 遊雅堂 カジノcorporated. Furukawa Electric and VISCAS Corporation will be responsible for develop遊雅堂 カジノg elemental technologies for seabed DC cable systems.

The Furukawa Electric Group was among the first to realize the potential of offshore w遊雅堂 カジノd power generation, and has begun work遊雅堂 カジノg toward mak遊雅堂 カジノg this technology a reality. The Furukawa Electric Group had previously participated 遊雅堂 カジノ plann遊雅堂 カジノg NEDO's open sea implantation-type offshore w遊雅堂 カジノd power verification experiment 遊雅堂 カジノ Kitakyushu and the Fukushima reconstruction float遊雅堂 カジノg offshore w遊雅堂 カジノd farm verification research project run by the M遊雅堂 カジノistry of Economy, Trade and 遊雅堂 カジノdustry, 遊雅堂 カジノ which the Furukawa Electric Group contributed lead遊雅堂 カジノg-edge technologies such as riser cables and seabed power transmission cables.
