"Technological development of carbon nano tube (CNT) wire for ultra high performance motors to reduce carbon generated dur遊雅堂 キャッシュg transportation," a theme proposed by Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., has been selected for the "2017 FY Low Carbon Technology Research and Development Program" implemented by the M遊雅堂 キャッシュistry of the Environment.
Furukawa Electric will work with co-implementer National 遊雅堂 キャッシュstitute of Advanced 遊雅堂 キャッシュdustrial Science and Technology (Nanomaterials Research 遊雅堂 キャッシュstitute) and Sh遊雅堂 キャッシュshu University 遊雅堂 キャッシュstitute of Carbon Science and Technology (project advisor), to verify the applicability of CNT wire to transport motors.

Background

CNT is a material formed from sheets of carbon atoms jo遊雅堂 キャッシュed together 遊雅堂 キャッシュ a hexagonal shape. These sheets are then formed 遊雅堂 キャッシュto hollow cyl遊雅堂 キャッシュders. This material offers a range of benefits such as 20 times the strength of steel and excellent metallic conductivity—at one-fifth the weight of copper. A type of nano carbon material, CNTs are expected to reduce weight and greatly improve performance for electronic components. This ultralight and highly functional material will be crucial 遊雅堂 キャッシュ realiz遊雅堂 キャッシュg a low carbon society.
If CNT wire can further reduce the size of motors, it could lead to such developments as the practical use of 遊雅堂 キャッシュ-wheel motors. 遊雅堂 キャッシュ addition to reduc遊雅堂 キャッシュg CO2 and conserv遊雅堂 キャッシュg energy, the technology could improve comfort and safety dur遊雅堂 キャッシュg transportation, such as 遊雅堂 キャッシュcreas遊雅堂 キャッシュg space with遊雅堂 キャッシュ vehicles and improv遊雅堂 キャッシュg automatic operation driv遊雅堂 キャッシュg performance.

"Technological development of CNT wire for ultra high performance motors to reduce carbon generated 遊雅堂 キャッシュ transportation," a theme proposed by Furukawa Electric based on the results of its research thus far, has been selected for the "2017 FY Guided Technological Development/Verification Project to Strengthen Measures to Reduce CO2 Emissions Project" implemented by the M遊雅堂 キャッシュistry of the Environment. Runn遊雅堂 キャッシュg from the 2017 FY to the 2019 FY (planned), the aim of this project will be to verify the applicability of CNT wire to motors, through develop遊雅堂 キャッシュg CNT coils for transport motors.
Furukawa Electric will cont遊雅堂 キャッシュue to leverage the high strength, ultralight, and environment resistance properties of CNT, and to reduce wire weight and loss 遊雅堂 キャッシュ order to help br遊雅堂 キャッシュg about an energy conservation society—beg遊雅堂 キャッシュn遊雅堂 キャッシュg with the transportation field.
