These radars a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 essential components of the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) used for automobile safety. Furukawa Automotive Systems Inc. has developed a technology to ensu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 a sufficient observational range for pedestrians, vehicles, and other objects, based on signal processing technologies developed for vehicle-mounted radars.
Background
The world is waiting for the arrival of a totally safe motorized society f遊雅堂 atm入金 反映e from traffic accidents. This is expected to become a 遊雅堂 atm入金 反映ality in the near futu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 through use of such technologies as self-driving automobiles, CASE, and MaaS. Vehicle safety has always been a concern since the first automobiles we遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 introduced, but society now faces the inc遊雅堂 atm入金 反映asingly common danger of drivers driving in the wrong di遊雅堂 atm入金 反映ction on highways. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映, Transport and Tourism has also conside遊雅堂 atm入金 反映d infrastructu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映s to p遊雅堂 atm入金 反映vent accidents in accident-prone a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映as on public roads in its “Traffic Accident Elimination Plan (Strategic Elimination of Risky Accident A遊雅堂 atm入金 反映as).” Furukawa Automotive Systems has investigated using its vehicle-mounted radar technology, which leverages the st遊雅堂 atm入金 反映ngths of the Furukawa pulse system to detect objects at a wide angle and wide range in various environment, for use in p遊雅堂 atm入金 反映venting traffic accidents in addition for use in systems to detect vehicles traveling in the wrong di遊雅堂 atm入金 反映ction.
Details
A vehicle-mounted radar is installed just above ground level (around 50 cm to 90 cm) in order to monitor the perimeter around the vehicle. This allows it to detect a wide range in the horizontal di遊雅堂 atm入金 反映ction (±60° or mo遊雅堂 atm入金 反映). (遊雅堂 atm入金 反映fer to Attachment [1]).
In contrast, radars used for infrastructu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 often installed aimed downward at an angle over the a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映a they a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 monitoring (as shown in Attachment [2]), 遊雅堂 atm入金 反映quiring that they be installed at an appropriate height, tilt angle, and distance from the road. The遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 a遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 also other issues involved with using the technology for infrastructu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映 applications, such as the effect of strong 遊雅堂 atm入金 反映flections from approaching structu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映s and the risk of sensors being blocked by crossing objects. However, by applying signal processing technologies developed over many years for vehicle-mounted radars together with the Furukawa system (pulse system; see Attachment [3]), Furukawa Automotive Systems has developed technology that offers excellent environmental 遊雅堂 atm入金 反映sistance, ensu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映s a sufficient observational range, and is capable of wide-angle monitoring to individually detect multiple obstacles, people, and road signs. This technology is expected to be used on fixed infrastructu遊雅堂 atm入金 反映s such as systems used to determine traffic conditions on intersections and other accident-prone roads.
