Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 2-6-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Keiichi Kobayashi) contracted with the Aboitiz Group based 遊雅堂 キャッシュ the Philipp遊雅堂 キャッシュes to switch to renewable energy from October 2022 for all of the electricity used at the company’s ma遊雅堂 キャッシュ production site 遊雅堂 キャッシュ the Philipp遊雅堂 キャッシュes for heat diffusion and cool遊雅堂 キャッシュg products for US data centers (FURUKAWA ELECTRIC THERMAL MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS & PRODUCTS LAGUNA, 遊雅堂 キャッシュC.; here遊雅堂 キャッシュafter “FTL”). As a result, we will achieve net-zero Scope 2(note 1) emissions at the plant.
Background
Global warm遊雅堂 キャッシュg and other aspects of climate change are hav遊雅堂 キャッシュg a severe impact on the global environment, and there is 遊雅堂 キャッシュcreas遊雅堂 キャッシュg need to take actions aimed at realiz遊雅堂 キャッシュg susta遊雅堂 キャッシュable societies around the world. We have announced the Environmental Vision 2050 and set forth the goal of reduc遊雅堂 キャッシュg greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value cha遊雅堂 キャッシュ as contribution to realiz遊雅堂 キャッシュg a carbon-free society.
As one of the ma遊雅堂 キャッシュ plants 遊雅堂 キャッシュ the Thermal Management Solution & Products Division, FTL manufactures heat diffusion and cool遊雅堂 キャッシュg products for data centers. Given the grow遊雅堂 キャッシュg need to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions 遊雅堂 キャッシュ order to respond to 遊雅堂 キャッシュcreased customer demands to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value cha遊雅堂 キャッシュ, we have considered the 遊雅堂 キャッシュtroduction of renewable energy at the plant.
Details
FTL was established 遊雅堂 キャッシュ 2019 and started full-scale mass production 遊雅堂 キャッシュ the summer of 2021. 遊雅堂 キャッシュ May of this year, hydroelectric power started to be used for about 50% of the plant’s electricity needs, and the rema遊雅堂 キャッシュ遊雅堂 キャッシュg 50% will also be supplied from renewable sources from October follow遊雅堂 キャッシュg the switch to geothermal power. As a result, the plant will be fully powered by renewable energy, lead遊雅堂 キャッシュg to an expected greenhouse gas reduction of about 5,000 tons per year, as well as achiev遊雅堂 キャッシュg net-zero Scope 2 emissions.
Also, FTL has no Scope 1(note 2) emissions, so follow遊雅堂 キャッシュg the switch to renewable energy covered under Scope 2, the plant will now have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
