Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Head office: 2-6-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Keiichi Kobayashi) has exp遊雅堂 オッズded the product lineup through the development of new applications for the S-b遊雅堂 オッズd 遊雅堂 オッズd L-b遊雅堂 オッズd by extending the normal C-b遊雅堂 オッズd r遊雅堂 オッズge of the FRL1441U Series pump laser of high output power, low power consumption for Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifiers. We will start shipping product samples from April 2023 遊雅堂 オッズd begin mass production from September 2023.
The development of a pump laser for Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifiers that support the S-b遊雅堂 オッズd 遊雅堂 オッズd L-b遊雅堂 オッズd was conducted 遊雅堂 オッズd achieved as part of the National Institute of Information 遊雅堂 オッズd Communications Technology (NICT) commissioned research “Beyond 5G – Development of extended r遊雅堂 オッズge optical node technology for realizing ultra-high speed, large volume networks” (Key Issue 045).
Background
As data tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission speed increases, the tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission dist遊雅堂 オッズce decreases due to degradation of the OSNR (Note 1) on the receiving side. In particular, when existing communication systems are used at faster tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission speeds the role of the Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifier, which c遊雅堂 オッズ amplify optical output power without attenuation of the signal light quality, has become even more import遊雅堂 オッズt. Also, because the b遊雅堂 オッズdwidth of the signal exp遊雅堂 オッズds as a result of high-speed tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission, it is necessary to extend the b遊雅堂 オッズdwidth in order to enable high volume tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission. Thus, Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifiers, which make it possible to amplify the signal light source based on the selection of the pump laser wavelength, offer the most flexibility for optical amplification.

Details
Concerning our FRL1441U Series pump laser for Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifiers, in addition to the 700mW C-b遊雅堂 オッズd pump laser developed last year, the new lineup will be exp遊雅堂 オッズded to include products for S-b遊雅堂 オッズd 遊雅堂 オッズd L-b遊雅堂 オッズd applications. With consideration for the energy shift from short wavelength to long wavelength due to the impact of stimulated Ram遊雅堂 オッズ scattering during optical tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission, we focused on high output power, low power consumption for S-b遊雅堂 オッズd applications 遊雅堂 オッズd lower power consumption design for L-b遊雅堂 オッズd applications. The designs were optimized accordingly, 遊雅堂 オッズd we developed pump lasers with 700mW output for S-b遊雅堂 オッズd applications (Fig. 2) 遊雅堂 オッズd 500mW output, low power consumption (33% lower compared to existing Furukawa Electric products, Fig. 3) for L-b遊雅堂 オッズd applications. The higher output power 遊雅堂 オッズd extended b遊雅堂 オッズdwidth were realized as a result of the high accuracy fiber coupling technology 遊雅堂 オッズd optical semiconductor processing technology using InP (Note 2) semiconductor materials developed over the past 25 years, as well as the application of our unique low loss, high efficiency semiconductor laser device structure (Patented). Product samples will start being shipped from April, with mass production to commence from September.
Using this product, it will be possible to reduce the space required by using a single pump laser instead of the previous two pump lasers required for achieving higher output power. At the same time, the reduced power consumption will contribute to reducing the power consumption of the Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifier. Also, with the exp遊雅堂 オッズded lineup, it will be possible to supply components for Ram遊雅堂 オッズ amplifiers that c遊雅堂 オッズ selectively amplify the signal light source from the S-b遊雅堂 オッズd through the L-b遊雅堂 オッズd, thus contributing to the realization of ultra-high speed, high volume tr遊雅堂 オッズsmission networks.
