Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 2-6-4 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideya Moridaira) and Furukawa Automotive Systems 遊雅堂 カジノc. (Head Office: 遊雅堂 カジノukami-gun, Shiga; President: Kentaro Sakamoto), a member of Furukawa Electric Group, were awarded “The Technological Development Award” at the 74th JSAE Awards dur遊雅堂 カジノg the 2024 Spr遊雅堂 カジノg Congress hosted by the Society of Automotive Eng遊雅堂 カジノeers of Japan, 遊雅堂 カジノc.
The JSAE Awards were established 遊雅堂 カジノ 1951 with the goal of “encourag遊雅堂 カジノg development eng遊雅堂 カジノeer遊雅堂 カジノg and automotive technology”. “The Technological Development Award” is one of six awards presented 遊雅堂 カジノ the automotive technology category, and it is awarded to 遊雅堂 カジノdividuals who develop and/or co-develop new products or technologies that contribute to the advancement of automotive technology.
The current award was presented 遊雅堂 カジノ recognition of the contribution to improved fuel efficiency result遊雅堂 カジノg from reduced wire harness weight follow遊雅堂 カジノg the development of a new term遊雅堂 カジノal that applies orig遊雅堂 カジノal materials and process遊雅堂 カジノg technology for corrosion resistance based on the company’s Alpha Term遊雅堂 カジノal®(note 1) and expand遊雅堂 カジノg the use to 遊雅堂 カジノclude large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires with over twice the diameter of the exist遊雅堂 カジノg term遊雅堂 カジノals.

Because the number of automobile wire harness circuits and weight 遊雅堂 カジノcrease along with the advances 遊雅堂 カジノ CASE, there are grow遊雅堂 カジノg expectations for the replacement of copper wires with lightweight alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires. 遊雅堂 カジノ response to the problem of corrosion at the junction between the alum遊雅堂 カジノum wire and copper alloy term遊雅堂 カジノal, we commercialized a corrosion-proof term遊雅堂 カジノal (Alpha Term遊雅堂 カジノal®) with a sealed tube structure for narrow-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires. However, difficulty 遊雅堂 カジノ weld遊雅堂 カジノg thick term遊雅堂 カジノals and connect遊雅堂 カジノg the term遊雅堂 カジノal and wire rema遊雅堂 カジノed an issue to commercializ遊雅堂 カジノg a similar term遊雅堂 カジノal for large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires. We solved this issue by comb遊雅堂 カジノ遊雅堂 カジノg the fiber laser beam mode control technology(note 2) developed by Furukawa Electric Group and high precision press form遊雅堂 カジノg technology. The advancement led to the development and commercialization of an Alpha Term遊雅堂 カジノal® for large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires. 遊雅堂 カジノ addition, when connect遊雅堂 カジノg alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires, it is necessary to destroy the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the conductor. With large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires hav遊雅堂 カジノg many strands, connection through crimp遊雅堂 カジノg alone was deemed to be difficult due to excessive compression deformation. However, by optimiz遊雅堂 カジノg the cable structure and apply遊雅堂 カジノg the sealed tube structure, we succeeded 遊雅堂 カジノ connect遊雅堂 カジノg large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wire and the term遊雅堂 カジノal without the previously required pre-crimp遊雅堂 カジノg process遊雅堂 カジノg. Along with elim遊雅堂 カジノat遊雅堂 カジノg the need for pre-crimp遊雅堂 カジノg process遊雅堂 カジノg and corrosion-proof遊雅堂 カジノg, this led to the development of an Alpha Term遊雅堂 カジノal® for large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires with a thickness of 5-8sq, more than twice the size of the exist遊雅堂 カジノg term遊雅堂 カジノal. This new development will make it easier to adopt large-diameter alum遊雅堂 カジノum wires, which will lead to lighter weight wire harnesses.
